No issues expected with Chris Kelly’s contract

As Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli noted during a Wednesday conference call, Chris Kelly will not officially sign his four-year, $12 million extension until July 1.

On that day, the Bruins will receive cap relief with the expiring contracts of Brian Rolston, Joe Corvo, Greg Zanon, and Mike Mottau.

Once the Bruins clear those salaries, they will be free to bring Kelly back into the fold.

According to RDS, the French sister outlet of Canada’s TSN, the NHL rejected Kelly’s contract because of the Bruins’ lack of cap space.

But the deal will be signed and approved by the league July 1.
