Every Sunday, Boston Globe photographer Stan Grossfeld asks the subject of one of his photos to explain what's happening in the shot.
Who's up today: Williams Jerez, Lowell Spinners center fielder, diving unsuccessfully for a pop fly in an exhibition game against the Nashua Silver Knights, at LeLacheur Park, Lowell, June 15, 2012.
Jerez: “On this play, when the guy hit the ball, I was moving backwards, but then when I really saw the ball well, I was running really fast in to catch the ball. When I slid to catch the ball, I just couldn’t. It didn’t curve away. Maybe I dived a little too early. The ball was too far from me. It didn’t hurt. I said to myself, ‘Get that,’ but I couldn’t, and then I thought, ‘Get up quick,’ but the second baseman already got the ball. I felt a little bit bad. That’s my job to catch the ball hit there and I didn’t do it.’’
