LYNN - In a battle for Eastern Mass. bragging rights, the South beat the North, 6-2, Monday night in the Mass. Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Game at Fraser Field.

Most Valuable Pitcher Zach Schindler of Silver Lake led the way for the South, tossing three scoreless innings, striking out four and allowing just one hit.

“It’s a great accomplishment,’’ Schindler said of being named the game’s best pitcher. “I’m really happy. I just wanted to get first-pitch strikes and make sure I had my best stuff against the best players.’’

Schindler got some early run support, the South scoring two runs on two hits in the first inning off Lowell’s Matt Tulley, highlighted by a two-run single from Marshfield’s Max DiTondo.

Franklin’s Brendan Skidmore added to the South’s lead in the fourth inning when he roped a double to left-center to score Sean O’Neil (Norwood) from first to make it 3-0. Skidmore came around to score on a single to left by North Attleboro’s Ryan Olmo and two batters later, Joe Walsh of Taunton lined an RBI single down the right-field line to extend the South’s lead to 5-0.

After managing just one hit off Schindler and Kevin Kwedor of Marshfield over the first four innings, the North finally got on the board in the fifth against Bishop Connolly’s Koby Mitchell. Northeast Regional’s Jason Harper crushed a double to center to knock in a run and scored on Tulley’s single to left, cutting the South’s lead to 5-2.

In the seventh, East Bridgewater’s Casey DeAndrade (1 for 2, 2 runs), who was named the game’s MVP, added to the South’s lead when he doubled down the right-field line, stole third base, and scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-2.

“I just wanted to leave it all out there,’’ DeAndrade said. “I’m just riding out my baseball career. It’s bittersweet. I’ve been playing since I was little, so I’m going to miss it.’’

South coach Bill Battis of Marshfield said the group he had made it worthwhile.

“It was a great experience being able to do this,’’ he said. “It was a great way to end the season.’’

Ten players who played in the game will be chosen to join 10 others from the Central/West All-Star Game to represent Massachusetts against Connecticut next week. The final roster will be announced Wednesday.
