The Revolution on Thursday announced the acquisition of Honduran national team forward Jerry Ricardo Bengtson as the second designated player in franchise history. Bengtson, 25, acquired from CD Motagua, is expected to be available for Sunday’s game against the New York Red Bulls, pending approval of a P-1 work visa and international transfer certificate.
Bengtson, who has scored eight goals in 22 appearances for Honduras, has been selected for the Olympic team, and will miss MLS games during the London Games.
Bengtson led the Honduran league in scoring three times. He becomes the Revolution’s third Honduran international, following Alex Pineda Chacon (2002) and Mauricio Castro (2008-10), a former Motagua midfielder.
