On Monday, the Bruins signed forward Christian Hanson to a one-year, two-way contract. If Hanson makes the NHL roster, the 26-year-old will earn $600,000. If Hanson plays in Providence, he will make $105,000. Hanson projects to start the season in the AHL, but could earn a promotion if and when injuries take place.

Last season, Hanson played for Hershey, Washington’s AHL affiliate. The 6-foot-4-inch, 228-pound Hanson scored 10 goals and had 11 assists in 52 games.

Hanson originally signed a two-year, $1.75 million contract with Toronto on March 31, 2009. In 42 career games for the Maple Leafs, the right-shot Hanson scored three goals and had six assists. He was mostly a bottom-six forward for Toronto. Last summer, Toronto did not qualify Hanson, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Hanson signed a one-year deal with the Capitals on July 11, 2011. He didn’t appear in any games for Washington last season.

Hanson, an undrafted free agent, was a four-year collegian at Notre Dame. During his senior year, in 2008-09, Hanson scored 16 goals and had 15 assists in 37 games.

Hanson is better known for being the son of Dave Hanson of “Slap Shot” fame.
