Red Sox outfielder Ryan Sweeney is expected to miss eight weeks after hurting his hand by punching a wall in the dugout in Monday’s game.
Sweeney, who was scheduled for an X-ray on his left hand Tuesday morning, issued an apology on Twitter.
Said Sweeney: “Just want to apologize to my teammates, #RedSox, and fans. I don’t normally loose (sic) my cool and this was not an intentional action.”
Ryan Kalish was expected to join the Red Sox to replace Sweeney on the roster.
Sweeney grounded out in the eighth inning on a ball that Tigers second baseman Omar Infante dove to corral.
“I just came down, walked down the stairs, and kind of punched the door a little bit,’’ Sweeney said after the game. “I’ve done [it] before, but maybe not to this extent.’’
