After placing Kelly Shoppach on trade waivers last Friday, the Red Sox pulled the trigger on a deal Tuesday that sent their reserve catcher to the New York Mets in exchange for a player to be named. The move paves the way for Ryan Lavarnway to move into the role that had been occupied by Shoppach since the start of the season. Lavarnway became the third catcher on the roster when he was called up from Triple A Pawtucket Aug. 1.
