Wow!! Dan you really are out of the loop with Lucchino aren't you?? Earth shattering one-for-the-ages trade with the Dodgers and you've got nothing from the "inside". Nothing!! No Starbucks with Larry eh? Oh well you always have your new best friend Theo to share a cup of joe with. PS - Dan when you do coffee with Theo the next time do ask him if he believes the real motive behind the Dodger trade was the Sox desire to dump ADRIAN GONZALEZ. That's the REAL angle to this trade that no one is talking about.
It will be interesting to see......this reminds me of what it was like to be a Sox fan in 2002/2003.....little confidence in the team, the management and the organization. The difference is that the fans at that time were still under the spell of 'the Curse'.....we all wanted to see the Sox 'win it all' before we died. Wonder if people will still keep 'the sell out streak alive' for this version of 'the under-performers' now that they've won it all twice.
Well Dan you really got it right about Constipation relief.I recently experienced a bout with constipation that was very trying. I understand now how I felt when the Red Sox dumped the players you mentioned. OH WHAT A RELIEF! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK DAN!
Patience Dan. This is extended spring training. Did you expect them to all of a sudden start playing well because they jettisoned those players? They still have issues with starting pitching, and a lot of the players are very young. This year is a wash, but so what, we're going to see guys who are hungry again. When was the last time you saw them truly hungry? Maybe in 2004?
Nice column, Dan!
Dan, please. No one expects this team as it is now constructed to do much of anything except wait for the merciful end of the season so they can start anew next season. You must have heard the old saying Dan: "Wait til next season". It used to be the mantra around here at this time of year every year. As for Gonzalez we now see that he is a whiner and complainer too. His religious piety notwithstanding, he obviously is going to blame everyone, including the media for his poor performance here in Boston. And Beckett will probably let LA down just like he did here in Boston. They will realize once the honeymoon is over that they really only got one good one in this trade: A-Gon (possibly, if they don't play too many Sunday night games and the chicken is good, cause ya gotta eat). Good riddance I say.
I wasn't happy with the trade of Gonzalez, but he didn't play as well as Boston had hoped. He didn't play up to his contract here and like you said he didn't exactly "carry the team to the playoffs". He wasn't the best leader if he really was talking behind the coaches back. Coaches coach and players play so there shouldn't have been any complaints.
