Josh Beckett says media turned him into a ‘monster’

The newest Dodgers starter and former Red Sox pitcher of seven years, Josh Beckett, opened up a little to WEEI’s Rob Bradford about leaving Boston and starting fresh in Los Angeles. The most notable points included his consultation with the other players traded before waiving his 10-and-5 rights and how the media -- not necessarily the fans -- ran him out of town.

Interesting piece though anyone who knew Beckett, professionally or personally, will tell you that he is incredibly self-centered and believes rules are for others and not him. Good riddance.

What else did anyone expect from this spoiled brat? Of course it's the media's fault. It must be the media's fault that his ERA was almost a batting average, it must be the media's fault that he would take himself off the roster for a sore thumb, or a headache....Yes, it must be the media's fault that when his team mates were battling to get into the playoffs last season, he and his fast buddies (Lester, Lachey, Bucholtz, etc) were in the club house eating fried chicken and drinking beer. After all, that is what good team mated do these days......No one is calling Beckett a "monster"...the media is just pointing out that now that his pitching skills have diminished he might want to work a bit harder to make up for that glaring fact. But no...he'd rather blame the media and the fans too probably. I can't wait for the honeymoon to be over in LA so they can see what a mistake they made taking him.

Hate to lose Gonzo, but if that's the price to dump Beckett, Crawford and Punto, it is what it is. Gonzalez, although a great hitter and decent glove, was reminds me of J.D.Drew...no heart. Give me a Fenway Park full of players who love to play any day...good riddence to the self-absorbed Josh Beckett ( that's what stupid money will do to an immature kid with pitching skills), the over-paid-over-rated-under-performing-underwhelming-too-often-injured Carl Crawford, and the Gore-like Nick Punto...Yeah, the "Wall" took away his power...really?...is this guy for real? This will be like Manny going to L.A....they'll make a big deal about him, blame Boston for his struggles, and in just a little while, these guys will again show their true colors - they'll quit, get hurt, blame SOMEBODY, etc...good luck Dodgers.
