Bobby Valentine’s job is safe, for now

Red Sox braintrust joins manager in Seattle

SEATTLE — Red Sox owner John Henry was already on the West Coast, and general manager Ben Cherington had been planning this trip for a month, he said. What a coincidence that they were all together here Monday, with manager Bobby Valentine at his most vulnerable since he took the job last December.

Henry said he was on a “fact-finding” trip, speaking to players, coaches, reporters. The only fact he needs to know is that his team stinks.

The most disturbing thing I've heard lately is that Henry thinks they need to use Bill James more. The Sox problems stem from issues with human behavior, not analyzing stats. They've brought in players who can't perform in this market. No stats will tell you that. You have to understand people and what makes them successful. The whole organization is dysfunctional because those in charge of creating it don't seem to understand chain of command and how healthy organizations work together. You can throw a bunch of smart people together and still get bad results. If the guy who owns the team doesn't get this how can this team get better? John, it's not flipping commodities, it's baseball with human beings involved! Bring in good baseball people and get out of the way, you gigantic nerd!! Your team is as unlikable as you!

Could not agree more Bendogger.  I also don't think there is any way they will keep Valentine around given what he is doing right now.  This wasn't even as good as the usual "vote of confidance" that nearly always precedes a firing.  Kiss of death.  BV is a dead man walking.  If anything he's basically TRYING to get canned.

I agree with the pundit who said that ownership is waiting until the PawSox season is over so they can move the PawSox manager (whoever he is) in as the interim manager because nobody on the current coaching staff deserves the role.  The whole gang ought to be fired along with Bobby V!  Yes!!!!
