If Red Sox want John Farrell, it won’t be easy

SEATTLE — John Farrell was the Red Sox’ top choice to manage after they fired Terry Francona last October, and every indication this reporter has received from team and major league sources is that he will be their first choice to replace Bobby Valentine.

The Red Sox, however, could run into the same buzzsaw they ran into last fall: compensation. It’s not easy to work out a deal for a manager at any time, but it’s particularly tough with a team in your own division. If he’s the manager you want, do you overcompensate to get him? It’s a different sport, but the Patriots overcompensated the New York Jets in order to get Bill Belichick.

John Farrell is a joke and to even discuss giving up something to get him when this team cannot afford to "give up" any prospect is completly crazy and absurd. John Farrell is average at best and what we are going to bring him back to Boston because a few of the idiots on the team "like him". Are you freakin kidding me?

If the Sox do get Farrell who becomes the pitching coach, in name only? Come on grow up Sox management. A guy is the manager for the full team not one segment of it. You could start another round of text messages in 2013, do we need that again?

Please forget Farrell, bring back Tito!

Why is it that everyone seems to want Farell back?  He did a lousy job with the pitching staff on the Red Sox (screwing up the pitching style of Matzuzaka for one thing) and he now manages a team that's doing even worse than us.  I just don't get it.

Bring back Tito!
