Bob Ryan

Boston now officially belongs to the Patriots

No shot was fired.

Nor, to my knowledge, was there so much as a water balloon tossed or a disparaging remark uttered concerning someone’s mother.

True enough for today. Say goodbye to Brady and Belichick, say hello to 8 - 8 teams and then let's talk.

Nice thoughts, Bob. But you got one thing totally backwards. We did not borrow Mitt. He borrowed us. Or maybe even a less flattering verb belongs in that sentence.

Not buying it. It's a snapshot in time, nothing more. People may be turning their attention to football because watching the Red Sox has gotten painful, but that doesn't mean they don't care. If—nay, when—the Red Sox get back to winning another World Series, it will still be a bigger deal than the Super Bowl. This is, always has been, and always will be, a baseball town. The fall of 2012 notwithstanding.

Bob, welcome back, even if just for a brief visit.

Good article, but I think your sentiments are premature.  If/when the Red Sox return to their winning ways, I believe the allegience will switch right back.  It may take a few seasons, but it is inevitable.  Look no further than the Bird era Celtics.  They were the biggest game in town, with fans expecting a finals matchup with the Lakers.  That era ended when Bird retired, and the Celts have never had the same standing in town.  The same will happen with the Pats no later than when Brady hangs up the cleats.

I agree Bob! I wish you health and happiness in retirement. 1. Patriots 2. Bruins 3. Red Sox 4. Celtics What do you think?
