Patriots fall short in home opener

Late Gostkowski miss comes after flat performance by New England

FOXBOROUGH – The sound you heard repeatedly at Gillette Stadium Sunday afternoon was not “Drewwwww” in honor of former quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who was on hand for the Patriots-Cardinals game.

No, the sound was fans booing the Patriots’ effort against the Cardinals. The home team struggled to move the ball and defensively let Arizona quarterback Kevin Kolb mix just enough good plays in among his head-scratching ones to put points on the board.

For those conspiracy people who think some games are thrown, this one's for you. Gronk wasn't part of the game plan until 4th quarter? You have the best throwing QBand there's run after run to Ridley? This one is squarely on coaching staff.

Suddenly missing Bill,O'Brien.

Nice imitation of the Red Sox, Pats!

Kudos to the defense.  Great job - particulalry because the offense was a no show.  Am I the only Pats fan who thinks Josh McDaniels designs terrible offensive schemes?  He wastes his talent (and this would be even more obvious were there not so much talent on the offensive side).

Today's loss reminded me of the last Superbowl loss:  A complete waste.

The only thing remotely positive is that it was not a division or conference loss.

True.  Though I hear the D played pretty well too.

This result was unaviodable as soon as the Fox network put "have never lost home opener at Gillette" on the screen before the kickoff. That's like saying someone is pitching a no-hitter during the game; invariably, the next batter gets a hit. In the Patriots' case, the defensive and offensive plans for most of the game were also to blame.

I am glad the family talked me into going to the Worcester Arts Festival yesterday rather than watch the game.  Sure, it was ugly checking on the cell phone, too.  But at least I was outside able to enjoy the sun, the art and the beer!
