FOXBOROUGH — This should have been a banner day in the career of receiver Wes Welker.
With a red-jacketed Troy Brown being inducted into the Patriots’ Hall of Fame and watching from Robert Kraft’s booth, Welker broke Brown’s record to become the all-time receptions leader in Patriots history with his 558th catch.

Ex Globie and sometime basketball intern takes misguided shot at covering football: Jackie McMullen, long time Bill Bellichick and Tom Brady basher, an out her depth dillentante when it comes to football while reduced to benchwarmer at ESPN, she's so good, after one game has figured out that the Pats aren't the Pats. How astute, Jackie. I guess the 27-5 record the past few years and superbowl appearence just last year weren't enough for football maven Jackie. The poor baseball first ex Globies, awash in their own sad tears with only Fenway bricks and Sox overstuffed #1 foam hands for solace, cannot stomach the fact that the Patriots are number one in town by a mile and will keep up their childish, shrill and pathetic agenda driven whines, while knowlegeable football fans simply laugh at them and their beloved Red Flops.
"Knowledgable fans"! What a misnomer! The Pats came out flat! Period! End of story! they expected Arizona to lie down for them. Instead the Arizona defensive line controlled the game. And, just maybe, the Pats were pissed because Welker was held out of the starting lineup!
The Pats have been better than the Sox in keeping the soap opera dramas out of the picture. But the Welker saga is beginning to shape up as one to watch. Frankly, a lot of the play calling smells like a soap opera. After Ridley proves he can do the job, why wasn't he the one to get the two point conversion? The Pats are clearly making choices about who to play, and who gets what stats. The line of "for the good of the team" is starting to ring hollow.
Wasn't it nice of two of those poor, deflated non football and jealous Red Sox fans to comment on the game.
The best slot receiver in the NFL belongs on the field, period. No opponent is game planning against Edelman. If it takes an injury to Hernandez to force the coaching staff to play Welker, then so be it. I am looking forward to the rest of the season now, knowing that Welker and Branch are back in the line-up.
