Wes Welker was unsure of place in offense

With controversy swirling about his place in the Patriots offense, Wes Welker said Monday that he was unsure if he’d get the start leading up to Sunday’s 20-18 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

”I really wasn’t positive even leading up to the first series,” Welker said told WEEI during a morning appearance. “I just wasn’t sure. I just go out there and, whenever my number is called, I go out and play.”

This was the most poorly prepared Pats offense I can ever remember having seen.  What were the coaches thinking?  Welker was wasted, certainly, but also - as far as I'm concerned - Brady was wasted in the scheme.  The team was never aggressive on offense and just hung on until time ran out.  (Did you notice that the Giants - led by Eli Manning who is not half the quarterback Brady is - got the point in the second half, picked things up and won the game?  What were the Patriots waiting for?)

I've always been skeptical about Josh McDaniels' ability.  Now I am convinced that he is at best a second-rate offensive mind.  Of course, if Belichek was calling the shots, he's the one to blame.  Very, very sad.  It's going to be a long season unless the Patriots decide that they've got to beat the other team - rather than waiting around for their opponents to beat themselves.

Look for the Ravens to eat the Patriots alive.  Man, I hate saying that - but that's what many of us are thinking.
