ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Ryan Lavarnway was hitless in four at-bats against the Tampa Bay Rays Monday night, striking out twice. Yet it was one of the more satisfying games of his career.
Righthander Aaron Cook had his best start in weeks, holding the Rays to one run over six innings. Lavarnway took more pride in that than he would have in hitting a home run.

Can we at least talk about how preposterous it is that Lavarnway spent 4 years in the minors, but it wasn't until last year he learned the art of calling a game? And that wasn't even taught by one of his coaches? Doesn't this speak pretty damningly of the Sox coaching staffs? Couldn't just about any retired professional catcher be hired to teach that?
