They came for the sight of freshly mown grass gleaming under the stadium lights and the steep green cliff of the Wall. They came to hear the crack of the bat and the singsong “Heyyyy, Coke here!” They wore gloves in anticipation of a ball hit their way.
The season may have been a lost cause weeks ago, but that did not dampen the spirits of fans who came to Fenway Park Tuesday night for the penultimate home game.

Is this supposed to be some kind of "fell good" commentary for the end of a miserable, stinking, disgusting season? Good ole Fenway can still attract the suckers, despite the worst on field offering since 1996? If people want to support a losing effort such as this season's team was, then it's their money and they can spend it anyway they want. If going to the old ball park to watch a bunch of losers play ball floats their boat; more power to em. Not for me though....I was done with this miserable lot 2 months ago.
So, with all those empty seats - why didn't Red Sox management simply allow families to attend at no cost??????????????
Who are these "die hard fans"? A lot of them seem to be disguised as empty red and blue seats or chirpy, drunken pink hatters.
