A preseason knee injury kept Boston College junior wideout Bobby Swigert off the field for the Eagles’ first three games, but he returned to practice last week and head coach Frank Spaziani is optimistic about getting his top receiver the past two seasons back for this weekend’s battle with the Clemson Tigers.

“Bobby got back to doing some limited work last week, we’ve been pushing him along,” Spaziani said in this morning’s ACC teleconference. “So he’s making progress. Just how much and how often he plays is yet to be determined right now, but he’s making progress in his recovery so we’re happy about that.”

Swigert caught 44 passes last season for 470 yards and three touchdowns, and was expected to be quarterback Chase Rettig’s primary target this year before he came up limping after catching a pass in a late August scrimmage.

In his absence, junior receiver Alex Amidon has emerged as the top receiver in the ACC, averaging 8.3 catches and 122 yards per game. He was added to the 2012 Biletnikoff Award watch a week ago after making nine grabs for 118 yards in a loss to Northwestern. The Eagles passing offense is the best in the conference, but Spaziani said he welcomes more weapons, especially going against a Clemson team that’s long on firepower.

“More talent is always a good problem,” Spaziani said. “Bobby’s a good football player and he’s experienced and he brings a lot of things besides his physical skill to us. His leadership and his maturity out there. We’re happy to have him practicing at least. “
