BALTIMORE — It doesn’t take a professional scout to notice that the guy playing shortstop for the Red Sox is a pretty special talent.
You can make the argument that the Sox essentially wasted a year having Jose Iglesias try to develop his offensive game in Triple A. He really didn’t need to do that because, quite frankly, his forte is his forte. He’s an exceptional defensive talent and whatever he hits, he hits.

Yes, this shortstop is very exciting. I would love to see Iggy have this role for the whole season next year. A great defensive shortstop can help a pitcher be better too.
By the way, I remember Valentine wanting Iglesias to be his shortstop this year. What happened with that?
Doesn't 7 for 57 tell you anything, Nick? Your credibility as the writer is at an all time low, about as low as most people's opinions of Valentine as a manager.
I absolutely agree with you. When the Sox gave up on Gonzalez I was very disappointed as he saved more runs then he cost us at the plate. And if you look at his hitting stats when he was with the Sox, he wasn't that bad. Teams with great shortstops have a big advantage and when coupled with Pedroia you have a terrific combination. The Sox need to quit playing musical chairs with this position.
He needs to hit a little at least 240. His bunting and baserunning needs improvement as well.
