Dan Shaughnessy

Red Sox officially now a last-place team

NEW YORK — They have clinched it all now; the Full Monty of Bad. And we don’t mean Monty Montgomery.

The moribund Red Sox did not roll over like dogs Tuesday night. They put up a fight, which has been rare since August. But they still lost to the Yankees, 4-3, in 12 innings. Wednesday night they play Game No. 162 and then we wait for Bobby Valentine to be fired.

Man oh man, does Shaughnessy hate Valentine or what?

You are a piece of work! No wonder players dont want to be here. Els isnt in the lineup so you question him about his desire. If he had gone to BV and complained you would have called him a whiner

Don't know how, but you manage to make a column out of nothing. Ellsbury tells you he waneds to play and it was Valentine's decision. Valentine confirms that and gives you his reasoning, which was plausible. I think that could have been summed up in two sentences - one if you really tried. At least you gave them credit for last night.

BV says it doesn't matter what he thinks. No kidding, Bobby. It didn't matter all season and it isn't going to start now. Once the final out is made tonight, pack your bags and head back to Japan or Mars - nobody cares.
