NEW YORK — You can see in his eyes and in his demeanor and in his body language how badly Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington feels about this season.
He has done mea culpas about his lack of offseason moves, which left Boston’s pitching rotation short, and about things he could have done differently to improve a roster that was Red Sox Light.

Cherington should suffer the same fate as Valentine. If he does stay, he should be empowered to hire the Manager he wants and then let the Manager hire his own staff. If he doesn't get the power to be a real GM, then he should walk like Epstein did. He can always find a job with Dan Duquette, his old boss. Nick thanks for all your help in setting the stage for the Valentine hire. At least Cherington admitted his mistakes.
Come on Nick you know how it goes with the media here in Boston ever since the carpetbaggers bought the team and fair haired local boys took over as the GM's
If it's a good move then all credit goes to Ben or Theo
If it's a bad move then all blame gets placed with Larry.
That's been the media agenda/spin around here for years.
Ben Cherington will get same free ride from the media that Theo received.
Ben Cherington is as much to blame for this season and this roster as ANYONE in the Sox organization.....yet he will receive zero criticism for any of it.
Look at that roster.
No manager was winning with that.
It's all Bobby's fault..........because Bobby is Larry's guy.
Just connect the media dots.
Carrying Bobby's water right up to the final drip. Bravo, Nick.
Cherington is a class act and thinks before he speaks. Bobby V is Bobby V. It was a bad match from the start. The fact that the players didn't want Bobby V to be hired should have been given more weight. Still the performance of the team had more to do with injuries and bad pitching than anything else.
