Dan Shaughnessy

For Red Sox, an ugly season finally ends

NEW YORK — This must be what it felt like when Richard Nixon was walking around a near-empty White House, holding a tumbler of scotch and talking to the portraits of former presidents that line the hallways of the residence on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Bobby Valentine’s final hours as Red Sox manager Wednesday were a little sad.

I have always enjoyed reading Dan Shaughnessy over the years but his one sided hatred of Bobby Valentine this season was like the one sided political stuff going on in this country. Dan had his own agenda and never would be open or man enough to give Bobby a chance. Why didn't you have a chance to discuss the ballroom dancing or Phil Collins double date Dan? Was it because you were too busy hating on him from day one? You have become a joke and this is from someone that always had your back when people were bashing you Dan.

I don't see how they're going to right the ship. They've truly lost their way. While you bow to Larry Lucchino as "the only adult in the room", who hired Bobby V? Larry. It showed incredibly poor judgement on his part. Similar to when Theo brought in JD Drew, and everyone knew it was the wrong thing to do, I don't recall anyone being supportive of the hiring of Bobby V. Lucchino and Henry think they're smarter than everyone else and their arrogance has blown up in their faces. Henry doesn't seem to be able to reign in Larry so there's no reason to expect anything to change with the Sox. It's sad to see them become such a laughingstock.

It's 11:25 AM in Boston as I write this. Why hasn't Bobby V been fired?

I call it Karma. The most obnoxious sports fans in the nation now have the worst baseball team.

What I'd really like to see are a side by side of Shaughnessy's late season articles with those he wrote during the pre-season when he was trashing on Francona and talking about how professional the Valentine organization was in contrast. That would be a hoot.

Just like Obama, the Red Sox were a mess before Bobby, they were a mess with Bobby, and they will be a mess for at least a while after Bobby. You can't blame this on Bobby. On the other hand, it is clear that nothing will improve and nothing will change for the better with Bobby in this situation. Bobby has to go. It's not his fault, but he can't fix it. That means he MUST go! The EXACT SAME THING is true for Obama!!!! He didn't create Clinton's housing recession that ran into the wall a decade later, but he has also proven that he isn't experienced enough to fix it and it is clear that nothing will improve anytime soon if we continue to follow his fantasies of how economics works (and doesn't work). Obama didn't make this mess, but he can't fix it either! Obama needs to go! Just like Bobby! It's not Bobby's mess but Bobby can't fix it, so he is out! And so is Obama!
