Red Sox reconstruction goes beyond firing Bobby Valentine

Now, Bobby Valentine rides his bike off into the sunset. It’s OK for him to keep spinning his wheels. It’s not OK for the Red Sox to keep spinning theirs.

The (dis)organization on Yawkey Way has put a toe tag on the manager for the second time in two seasons.

"If you’re a Red Sox fan, cross your fingers that the managerial search is conducted in a more logical manner than the Bobby V postmortem media access that Lucchino and Cherington held. Instead of the traditional press conference, Lucchino and Cherington elected to meet with news outlets one at a time in small groups. It felt like waiting for your number to be called at the Registry of Motor Vehicles. Everybody but Jim Lehrer got the opportunity to question Lucchino and Cherington about a move that everyone knew was coming for month." So Gasper is whining because everybody but Jim Lehrer has a chance to speak to Larry and Ben face to face? Hmmm............ Or is it that some members of the The Fellowship Of The Miserabe aka the Boston media are upset and whining because they "had to wait in line" for their access to Ben and Larry?? Hell hath no fury like media prima donna's scorned. Kudos Dr. Charles. Kudos!!!!!!!!!! PS - Chris the premise of your column is all wet. The Sox have been using the same "process" for decision making since they got here. Pleae pay attention.

Good analysis. Switching managers is like applying a band-aid to a bullet wound.

Just like Obama, the Red Sox were a mess before Bobby, they were a mess with Bobby, and they will be a mess for at least a while after Bobby. You can't blame this on Bobby. On the other hand, it is clear that nothing will improve and nothing will change for the better with Bobby in this situation. Bobby has to go. It's not his fault, but he can't fix it. That means he MUST go! The EXACT SAME THING is true for Obama!!!! He didn't create Clinton's housing recession that ran into the wall a decade later, but he has also proven that he isn't experienced enough to fix it and it is clear that nothing will improve anytime soon if we continue to follow his fantasies of how economics works (and doesn't work). Obama didn't make this mess, but he can't fix it either! Obama needs to go! Just like Bobby! It's not Bobby's mess but Bobby can't fix it, so he is out! And so is Obama!

Don't be so sure that this is a job that any manager would want. The players are whiners, the ownership is confused and the media preys on failure to make a living. They kiss butt for a story and then disparage the folks that they just interviewed. Sports talk radio is even worse, fools, all of them.

How does Lucchino manage to hang on?

Larry's the problem and it doesn't appear he's going anywhere. No president would ever hold onto their job after such a train wreck. He appears incapable of admitting mistakes and spends all of his time lawyering his way through damage control. He did a great job for the Sox for many years but has outlived his shelf life. It happens. Will John Henry, aka George McFly, ever have the stones to tell Larry to "take your damn hands off" this team? Doubt it. I'm done with this team.

""It felt like waiting for your number to be called at the Registry of Motor Vehicles." Of course, as usual, it's all about the media and what kind of access they have. They're the ones whom wanted to knock down Fenway so they could have better digs and parking. It's always always about them.  They should choose the manager based on his media "accessability quotient", Per Sabermertics.
