The Nationals earned their first playoff berth this season since moving from Montreal in 2005, but for baseball fans in the nation’s capital the drought was much longer — no team from Washington had played in the postseason since the 1933 Senators lost the World Series to the New York Giants. The long and winding path back to the postseason spanned three franchises:
