Roundup: Providence men’s hockey routs Sacred Heart, 8-2

The Providence men’s hockey team won its home opener for the fourth consecutive year, with highly touted freshman center Mark Jankowski scoring the Friars’ first goal of the season and paving the way to an 8-2 pummeling of Sacred Heart at Schneider Arena.

After the early first-period goal by Jankowski, the 21st overall pick in the 2012 NHL draft (Calgary), the Friars didn’t score again until 6:53 into the second period. But two quick goals by Stefan Demopoulos made it 4-0 midway through the period, and the lead was up to 6-0 less than two minutes into the third.
