Patriots offense just can’t finish

FOXBOROUGH — There they were, the sons of Josh McDaniels, with the game in their hands with 5:39 left in the fourth quarter.

Again.

Finally, a reporter that zeros in on the actual problem:Josh McDaniels. You can not be handed an offensive as high powered as this and continue to get sub standard outcomes. Now Greg, please to the right thing and compose the column that states once and for all that Coach B is the most overrated "in-game" coach in the NFL.

Another great article from Greg! You forgot one thing, however... how much this defense "STINKS" ! How is Patricia STILL the D-coach? Put Peppers in and see what comes up. We have to start to change things now, if we are going to be better come January, on BOTH sides of the ball. (that is not to forget about S-teams, as every chance the Jets came out of their end zone, they gained 30+ yards. Yes, McCoorty had a TD on run-back, but gave up same w/ fumble ... ahhhhhhhhhhh!!! .... and pa-leeze, stop using Welker on punts (yes he has great (er v.good) hands), but he just does not have the explosiveness of a younger player.

Patricia is still there because Belichik uses no-name coaches (other than Pepper) that don't question him. When they won Super Bowls Weiss and Crennel, two coaches who supposedly would disagree with Bill, were here. Belichik is a hall of fame coach, one of the best of all time - we all know that. That said, he shouldn't be viewed as a "defensive genius" considering how bad this defense has been for so long. Bill needs help but he's not going to ask for it. It is what it is.

While the defensive backfield is undoubtedly the *worst* of the Pat's problems, this inability of the offense to run down the clock and protect leads is the second worst. And it is all the more annoying considering how everyone swoons over Brady, McDaniels, Welker, Gronkowski, Hernandez etc. In just about every game this year, (except those easier blowouts against the titans and bills) the much vaunted offense has had a chance to go out there at a key point in the fourth quarter and put the game away. Instead they went three and out. It's pathetic. Personally I blame McDaniels for play calling. I think it has been atrocious. But the players executing the plays must certainly also bear their burden. This situation has to change though. This 'number 1' offense can't go three-and-out in key times in the 4th quarter if this team is going to be in the playoffs.

Don't know if you've noticed, but Brady has just not been as sharp this year as in the past.  Many of his passes are missing the mark, often making things difficult for his receivers.  And yes, the pass defense sucks. Not only allowing easy receptions, they're also getting called for penalties. Every team the Pats play from here on in will be absolutely feasting on this blatant weakness.

I think a lot of this is on McDaniels. When he was here before he was trying to establish himself as an offensive coordinator. He wasn't trying to be too cute. Now that he's back he seems to want to show everyone how smart he is, rather than taking advantage of the extensive talent advantage the Pats have on offense. It looks like Brady's getting frustrated out there. The offense plays better when Brady's calling the plays. Hopefully McDaniels will settle in and the offense will get into a groove in the second half.

The last two games Patricia's defense has allowed a rookie and a mediocre QB settle in comfortably to throw the ball, with a lot of success..........How about maybe a corner blitz in the nickel, they can' t cover anyhow and they just might get to the QB.....
