Before he headed to the podium Sunday, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady spritzed himself with cologne. There was a lot of verbal cologne being sprayed and spouted in the Patriots’ locker room after their fingers-crossed 29-26 victory over Rex Ryan and the New York Jets.
This was a malodorous win if there ever was one. You’ve heard the expression putting perfume on a pig. The 4-3 Patriots put perfume on the pigskin Sunday at Gillette Stadium. It was Eau de Victory.

Isn't it time to look at the coaching on this team. It seems like both the coordinators are in a funk, particularly the defense. There was no flow to the offense for most of the game yesterday. Two runs and third and four was the game plan. The offense then magically moved in the last minute and a half and the overtime. It seems often times like McDaniel wants to show how smart he is rather than get the flow of the offense going. Defense is horrible, the d-backs show little or no technique, and the play calling is horrendous. Time for Billy B to get hands on with his D. He now seems bored...thank God for Sanchez, if we faced anyone but him we would have had another loss. I hope the team breaks out of its funk.
This is a team with offensive problems (pun intended). The biggest change on offense is Josh McDaniels. Is it him? I don't know. Who decides the personnel packages that hit the field? Specifically, yesterday, where were Ridley and Vereen in overtime?
@jimpatod47 and @97bravo... you guys are so right, man. Can anyone explain how Patricia is STILL the d-coord??? You mean noone is available from, say, a pop-warner team in the area, b/c that is about the level of "D" coaching we are seeing @ Gillette. Same for the "O". I don't get it? ..and pa-leeze... TB12 did not have a great day... average, which may be the new norm...
I almost wish we lost this game because maybe with a loss BB decides to take some decisive action to change the direction of this team. How aout even an occassional blitz? As bad as the secondary is, and it is awful, nobody can cover for 6 or 7 seconds. Please stop with the bad imitation of the Oregon Ducks no huddle run game. This is the NFL. It only took opposing defenses about 2 weeks to fiqure this out and stop it. The only people being worn down by this is our running backs. The offense needs rythem and flow, NOT GIMMICK PLAYS! This is the NFL. Also, we are at our best offensively when Welker is involved downfield, not just on bubble screens. It keeps the safetys honest because they have to help out. Lastly, we all need to stop pretending that everything is fine as long as we win regular season games against lessor opponents.
HOw many times have the opposing quarterbacks been sacked in the past few weeks? Therein lies the problem aside from the fact that our defensive backs are 5' 8" and their receivers are 6' 4" !!!
Not sure McCourty running one back helps them. Now he wants to do it every kick even when it makes more sense to take it at the 20... I'd rather have the ball at the 20 than at the 15 and I'd rather we keep possession instead of fumbling it away...
Will there ever a time when Chris can offer some real insight into the Patriots, in lieu of rehashing what every talk show host will scream about on Monday. You know, some reasoned explanation as to why a sirtuation is what it is and ways in which the team can improve their play. No just what everyone whom watched the game already knows, like reading something twice you only have to read once or three times if you are silly enough to read Jackie Mac Mullen.
I have a few comments. First, I believe the defense has to mix it up a little. An occasional blitz would be nice. The time we're giving opposing quartebacks to throw my mother could complete passes. Staying with the defense, trade for at least one experienced defensive back. The current group are awful. Offensively two things, First, keep Ridley in the game as much as possible. This revoling backfield doesn't cut it. Lastly, keep a running back in the backfield at all times. You're just making it easy for the defense who know Brady's not going to run with the ball. Brian D
Actually, the expression is "putting lipstick on a pig".
