John Farrell wanted the challenge.
Having seen the scrutiny that can fall upon the Red Sox manager even during good times, the new Boston field boss did not blink when presented with an opportunity to take over a 69-win team that finished last in the American League East, its worst season since 1965.

So glad to have Farrell back.
I hate to rain on the love fest/honeymoon, but Farrell really didn't aquit himself all that well in Toronto. As a matter of fact, the complaints from some well thought of Blue Jays insiders was that Farrell couldn't/didn't control the club house free for all that apparently took place in Toronto. Hmmmm, does this have the ring of familiarity to anyone out there? A bunch of bratty, resentful, self absorbed players??? And somehow Farrell is going to come into this disaster of a club house and fix it? Is management/Luchino going to back him? Will Cherington be given a bit of rein? Farrell might be able to help the dismal performance of what is left of the so-called pitching staff. If he doesn't decide tha he is the manager and not the ptiching coach. And there probably will be another ptiching coach. I know this is an upgrade from what management did last season in hiring the worst possible choice for manager they could have made possibly in the history of the franchise. Call me a skeptic, but I'll wait to see how this works out with regards to the onfield performance this coming season. I hope I"m proven wrong.
