College notebook: Maryland to play freshman QB at BC

Maryland is down to its fourth-string quarterback, true freshman Caleb Rowe, for Saturday’s game at Boston College after Thursday’s announcement that sophomore Devin Burns will miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

Burns ran for a touchdown in last week’s loss to North Carolina State after replacing freshman Perry Hills, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during the game. Hills was named the starter out of camp after junior C.J. Brown, the expected No. 1 quarterback, suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in August.
