Despite win, Patriots still searching for identity

LONDON — It was a long, strange trip for the Patriots.

That’s not a depiction of their visit to London, which included a walkthrough in Hyde Park. It’s a description of the Jekyll and Hyde first half of the season for Bill Belichick’s frequent fliers. Sherlock Holmes would have a tough time figuring out this year’s Patriots, who reached the halfway mark at 5-3.

This column, like many other stories on the game, reports the attendance as 84,000. Wow! Great for the NFL. Maybe time for a franchise in London. But when the TV cameras panned around the stands for a moment, the place was empty. Is the NFL perhaps playing numbers games with the press and the press is falling for it?

I just wish the tv coverage was better.  Even on a large screen tv the camera angles are terrible.  I feel like I'm watching from the highest, farthest seats in the stands.

"then promptly stomped the St. Louis Rams, 45-7, in a game that wasn’t even that close"

But that's not close. 45-7 is about as big a blowout as there is in the NFL.
