Red Sox make progress on David Ortiz deal

Free agents will hit the open market Saturday

As the World Series ended Sunday night, six Red Sox players became free agents. They will hit the open market Saturday at 12:01 a.m.

The Sox have said they want to retain designated hitter David Ortiz and outfielder Cody Ross.

Comments

If Ortiz plays 90 games again next year and bats 4.5 times/game and if he's paid $13,300,000 that boils down to almost $33,000 every time he steps up to the plate. Insanity.
