Celtics season preview

Rajon Rondo now among Celtics greats

He earns the praise of his point-guard predecessors

Somebody was bound to say it. Why not a Hall of Famer and Celtics champion who respects the franchise’s history as much as anyone?

“I’m going to get in trouble for this,’’ said Nate “Tiny’’ Archibald, who helped a young Larry Bird win his first NBA title in 1981, “but if you look at all the great point guards who have worn the Celtics uniform, Rajon Rondo does more than any of us put together.’’

Sorry but he still has a way to go before he can be classified as one of the Celtics all time great. He is getting there.

The Rondo fascination and the many who overrate him amazes me.  Atheletic?  No doubt.  A rebounder?  Nails.  A penatrater who can finish?  Yep.  But his awful shooting diminishes his ability to drive against the best teams.  He racks up crazy stats, usually dishing out to great offensive players, but again, against great teams, they let him shoot, cut off his penetration, and limit his assist chances by cutting off all his angles.  His defense has become lazy and risky... But so many love him so much.  He is not even one of the top 5 point guards in the league, let alone the greatest Celtic.  Please, stop it.  He's good, sometimes crazy good, but not great, not by any standard.
