Patriots paid too much for Aqib Talib

When it was first announced that the Patriots had acquired Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib, it made sense for both sides.

The Patriots have a very well-rounded team, but they are extremely poor at cornerback due to their own drafting and development problems. Talib, as much of a character risk he is, could be the final piece to put the Patriots over the top in the pursuit of a Super Bowl title.

how many 4th round players will start?

Exactly! Come on Bedard, how many more times can we afford to have mediocre to worse QBS torch us? I could care less about some 4th round pick that isn't likely to amount to squat anyway.  I'm sick of "value" crap when we're running out of time to win a Super Bowl.  Like this move because it shows that they are all in!

Sorry Greg.  This is a steal.  Look at how many starters the Pats have gotten from the 4th round and below in the last 5 years.  Hernandez, who only dropped because of his own drug issues, Edelman, who wasn't expected to be anything, and a kicker and a punter.  The Pats are flush with talent, flush with draft picks.  Why not take a chance.  The real question is whether they'll let Aqib be Aqib on the field.  Let him lock down a WR.  They let Randy be Randy and Corey be Corey, and they worked out fine.  They tried to force fit Albert and Chad into things they've never done before, and they struggled.  Put him on an island, let him take away an option from the opposing offense, and let the rest of the D work around him.

Give the man a chance!  He'll have a fresh start here and contribute to the team.  Let's wait and see if he has matured like so many former Patriots.

Lets put this into perspective , Ras I Dowling was a top of the second round pick of GM Bill Bellichek - are we really concerned about losing one of his 4th rounders ???  We give up a 4th rounder and get a 7th -  thats THE worst case scenario - big deal ... and if Talib gives us solid CB play - something we desperately need by the way - and something he is very capable of, this is a no lose situation in my humble opinion .. He's got character issues ...  so what - don't invite him over for thanksgiving dinner - or let him anywhere near your hand gun collections, or your sister for that matter - and I would also refrain from sharing a cab with him,  ... but by all means ... put him in our defensive backfield IMMEDIATELY  ... our DBS have been killing us for years ... they are the only significant weakness on this team right now , and could single handedly stop this team from going deep into the playoffs ... they are making below average QBs look like vintage Dan Marino ... so - go for it ... if it works this could be a steal.

To me, it's giving up a fourth rounder and more importantly, these guys can be a negative force on the field and in the locker room.  I don't like it.

Do you like watching this turd secondary get roasted over an open fire every week?

Bedard...relax!   It seems to be a clear move to improve the team...there are few character issues on the Pats and plenty of role models. Let Wolfolk or other character guys keep him straight...we only have 8-11 games left. He CAN help right away. Plus, my blood pressure needs a break!
