INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- The Red Sox have selected White Sox bullpen coach Juan Nieves to become their next pitching coach.
The news is a bit of a surprise given an ESPN report that Baltimore minor league pitching director Rick Peterson was the favorite.

This is a surprise. What is the story behind the story? Maybe Larry doesn't like him? Too bad. Sounds like Rick Peterson is the Joe Madden of pitching. Creative, innovative, And he is good at fixing young pitchers. Seems like More of the same interference from ownership and Larry. Problematic.
It sounded to me like Rick Peterson was their guy and then they hire a bullpen coach as their pitching coach? It seems like they just can't make good solid decisions. I live in the Washington, DC area and watch both the Nationals and Orioles games as well as the Red Sox on NESN and Jim Palmer and everyone with a voice in Baltimore credits Peterson with turning the Orioles pitching around. I don't get it Ben, Larry, Tom, John?
