Saturday’s season opener for the UMass women’s basketball team was extra special for Jasmine Watson. The senior cocaptain delivered 21 points to drive the Minutewomen to an 83-53 rout of Kent State at the Mullins Center, and in the process became the 18th player in program history to reach 1,000 points.
Watson filled the stat sheet with 8 rebounds, 4 steals, 4 blocks, and 3 assists. She finished 8 of 11 from the field. Eleven players scored for the Minutewomen, with Emily Mital providing 16 points, Kiara Bomben 13, and Rashida Timbilla 11 to go with a team-high 10 rebounds.
