Upon being hired in October, Boston College athletic director Brad Bates said he would wait until the end of the season to evaluate the football program, specifically embattled coach Frank Spaziani. While Bates and Spaziani have talked since Bates’s arrival at the Heights, Spaziani said none of those conversations has centered on what to expect once the season ends Saturday.
“We haven’t had any discussions on that,” Spaziani said.

While he seems like a nice guy and a loyal employee, Spaz should have remained a top defensive coordinator. The next step up was not in the cards. As seen on 60 minutes last night, these programs support many other sports and serve to spike alumni gifts, a benefit to both althletics and academics. BC benefited from the "Flutie effect" in the 80's, putting the school on the map, increasing applications from beyond the traditional BC geography, and helping grow the institution to it's current place as #31 in the US News and World Report ratings of colleges. Time for an inspirational young coach who can recruit, and use his talent wisely.
