Why trading Jon Lester is a bad idea

Bob Dutton covers the Kansas City Royals for the Kansas City Star. He wrote a story on Monday speculating that the Royals could be willing to trade outfield prospect Wil Myers for a starting pitcher.

Dutton mentioned Jon Lester and James Shields as examples of such pitchers.

I don't know or care about Wil Myers. But why would the Sox do this deal??? What they have a glaring need for is pitching....not another outfielder with a little pop in his bat. We need Justin Verlander, or another arm that can bolster the rotation. Lester needs to be re-trained and now that Farrel is back, maybe he can forget the bad stuff from Beckett and get back to his own stuff. Which was pretty good a couple years ago. I can't see the Sox making this deal. If they do, well we can look forward to another bad season ahead......

Never Trade pitching unless you get more Pitching:

Everybody wants pitching. To give up a pitcher for a mere hitter? Crazy is right. There's no one coming up in the ranks anytime soon, so Boston best hold on to any pitching it has, and Lester, bad year or no, is one of their best remaining now....

Someone is PISSED that he didn't have the story and is trying desperately hard to debunk it.  Have another donut!

It's a great idea to trade Lester for someone like Wil Myers, if the Red Sox decide to put both feet into the rebuilding process. I'm optimistic that the next wave of homegrown talent will be a squall, and the Red Sox would be wise to make moves now to complement the talent that will emerge over the next two years. The pitching they acquired in the blockbuster with the Dodgers makes losing Lester much more consumable. Do it, Ben!
