Sports log: Veteran Derek Fisher signs on with Dallas


Veteran point guard Derek Fisher inked a deal with the Mavericks after passing a physical Thursday. The 38-year-old was a free agent after playing last season with the Lakers and Thunder. To make room on the roster, Dallas waived Troy Murphy, who averaged 4.6 points and 3.5 rebounds in 14 games . . . Nets center Brook Lopez will miss the next two games with a mild sprain of his right foot, and will be considered day to day after that. Lopez was hurt in the third quarter of Wednesday’s win over the Celtics . . . The Cavaliers waived forward Luke Harangody and signed rookie forward Kevin Jones. Harangody, who hasn’t played this season, recently had arthroscopic knee surgery and is expected to miss another month. The former Celtic played 42 games over the past two seasons for Cleveland, averaging 4.5 points and 3.5 rebounds . . . The Thunder assigned rookie Jeremy Lamb to their NBADL affiliate in Tulsa. Lamb was acquired as part of the trade that sent James Harden to Houston . . . David Courtney, the veteran public address announcer for the Los Angeles Clippers, Kings, and Angels, died. He was 56. The Clippers said he died in Los Angeles, but gave no details. Courtney missed Wednesday’s game against Minnesota because he was in the hospital awaiting an angiogram, according to his Twitter feed.
