MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — We are spoiled. A win, even when it clinches a division title/playoff spot, isn’t good enough anymore.
With the Patriots in December of 2012, it’s about style points and degree of difficulty. We sit back and critique, like the proverbial Romanian judge in the old days of Olympic skating.

What else is new Dan? This franchise has proven over and over again that it always has what it takes. It comes down to whether the team can execute at the right moments. And they seem to be good at doing that. Over and over again. I would love to see the Pats in another Super Bowl appearence.
How about a different wrap up for this game - Pats beat Fins even with many starters off the field.
You were obviously rushing off to bar when you mailed in this wonderful work of journalism.
Ryan called you a "collegiate sports infidel" the other day. He could have removed the "collegiate" and the name would have stuck. Do you always have to be so miserable? I've always enjoyed your writing but for the last month or so you've been on a cold streak. You really seem to be reaching for things to write about. Think you need a little time off to go find your fastball.
Hey Dan, I hope you read Greg Bedard today. He does a outstanding job describing the detail of the power, technique and flexability of the offensive line and running backs executing flawlessly on the drive to close out the game. Perhaps too much detail for the casual fan but perfect for the more intense students of the game. It would be great if some of your writing were focused on more of the technical aspects of games (like Bob Ryan can do so well) to complement your perspective on unique personalities and all the drama!
Was Dan watching the same game? "Unwatchable at times"? While the Patriots didn't pound the Dolphins into the ground, they beat them solidly. There were some mistakes, drops, and a pick on a great play by the Dolphins' Jones, but was this game ever REALLY in doubt? Add in the fact that in the fourth quarter, the Pats put up a huge, game-sealing offensive drive - one that ended with just a field goal really only because of an overabundance of caution. It wasn't a beatdown, just a win against a middle-of-the-pack team. Just as it should be.
First, stop with the editorial "we," many of us thought it wouldn't be a cake walk--just because you did, doesn't make us all wrong.
Second, Miami hardly throws up over itself at the thought of playing the Patriots and Tom Brady, particularly in Miami--it was the first time he's beaten them there.
Third, taking 5 plays to get into the endzone from the 12 is not what I call quickly scoring.
...I do, however, agree with you that this is not a college sports town, but that's so obvious that I can't see how Bob Ryan misses it.
Speak for yourself, Dan.
Dan who??? What's your claim to fame bone head
