Sports log: Lakers’ PG depth takes another hit

Lakers point guard Steve Blake will undergo laparoscopic surgery on Wednesday to repair a torn abdominal muscle and will miss at least six to eight weeks, the team announced Monday. Blake has missed 10 games since being diagnosed with the strain Nov. 12. He averaged 5.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 26 minutes in seven games this season. He was thrust into a bigger role after prized offseason acquisition Steve Nash injured his leg early in the season . . . LeBron James of the Miami Heat was named Sports Illustrated’s Sportsman of the Year. James became an NBA champion for the first time in 2012, won his second Olympic gold medal, and his third NBA MVP trophy. He’s the first NBA player to win the award since Heat teammate Dwyane Wade in 2006.
