David Wright signed a long-term deal with the Mets last week.

The recent signings of David Wright and Evan Longoria to long-term, nine-figure contracts illustrate the current depth and talent at third base.

In addition to established stars such as AL MVP Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Beltre, Hanley Ramirez, and Ryan Zimmerman, there are several recent arrivals who are showing they may have star power as well.

Contract: 8 years, $138 million

Good news: Mets lock up team’s best hitter. 

Bad news: His OPS and slugging are worse the last four seasons than his first four.

Evan Longoria, Rays


Age: 27

Contract: 10 years, $136 million

Good news: Team’s best (only?) hitter and Gold Glove-caliber fielder could be a Ray forever. 

Bad news: Health issues? He has missed 173 of 810 games with injuries.

Brett Lawrie, Blue Jays

Age: 22

He was up and down in first full season but talent is undeniable.

 Will Middlebrooks, Red Sox

Age: 24

Fifteen HRs in 267 at-bats, impressive slugging (.509), OPS (.835).

Mike Moustakas, Royals

Age: 24

Batted only .242 in second season but hit 20 HRs and increased OPS, slugging.

Kyle Seager, Mariners

Age: 25

In first full season, delivered 20 HRs, 86 RBIs playing at Safeco.
