Trust missing in NHL labor negotiations

The lockout is all about dollars, so Forbes Magazine’s recent assessment of franchise values takes on added significance. Even though the average value is up to $282 million — an 18 percent increase from the 2010-11 season, thanks in part to the Maple Leafs becoming the first NHL franchise to reach $1 billion in value — the discrepancy between the highest and lowest values illustrates the need for the NHL to either contract teams or figure out how to redistribute its revenue.
