The double-entendre's every other line might not be enough to disqualify the jinx potential on this one. It takes a thoughtful, intelligent reading - with an awareness of the references - to understand that you are fully well leaving the door open for the Pats to be humiliated tonight. Rove crashed and burned. Burton jumped the gun and lost. And then there's the thorough trashing of the cardboard-cutout-Pats-Fan. Nice work on that one. Bottom line, it's just a kid's game. A few of hours of distraction from life, surrounded by jaw-boning. Whoever wins or loses, the sun is going to come up tomorrow.
Does anyone really find Shaughnessy funny? It's like he purposely crafts theses columns to tick off as many people as possible. That's no way to live, Dan.
thank you dan for helping me make an important decision. i am a season ticket holder to the pats and a huge fan but i am betting heavy on texas tonite.
I have to admit, the tennis match Dan's playing with himself between mocking the Pats supporters and optimists on the one hand and honest praise for the Pats on the other leaves me completely unclear at the end whether he's just insulting everyone or if he honestly stands by the Pats here. Which kind of makes it a questionable piece in my book, if nobody can honestly figure out the author's real opinion on the game.
I don't know if Shaughnessy is an idiot, does he just write like one or am I missing something. Why would anyone give a formidable opponent fodder to put up on the bulletin board?
Dan Shaughnessy doesn't want New England to win any more than Matt Schaub does. The Curly-Haired Boyfriend is still smarting over Bob Kraft not inviting him to some function more than ten years ago, and his "Hef" references reflect his bitterness at being left out of the club. Of course, to most of us not inviting CHB to anything is simply exercising good judgment.
So I waited until Tues to respond, as I thought this column had jinxed the Pats. The writer was on target on almost every prediction, including the big one. Hats off!

From your lips to God's ears, Dan. Go Pats!
Thanks for the jinx, Dan.

At first I wondered if Houston fans are smart enough to understand irony. After reading the comments I wondered if Patriots fans are.

Worst Shaughnessy column ever.
Maybe not.

Dan, if that tongue gets any further into your cheek, you'll be washing your ear.

I think he proved you wrong.
Let's just take Dan on face value and say he actually believes what he's written. Given his track record with sports locks, we're screwed.

I have to give it to Shaughnessy on this one.
Insanely prescient.
