Sports log: Redskins will start Cousins, not Griffin


Kirk Cousins will start Sunday at Cleveland in place of injured quarterback Robert Griffin III, the Redskins announced Saturday night. Griffin, who suffered a sprained knee ligament when he was hit by Ravens lineman Haloti Ngata last weekend, has been listed as questionable. Cousins relieved Griffin and led Washington to an overtime victory . . . Kansas City put Dwayne Bowe, the team’s leading receiver, on injured reserve with hurt ribs . . . Friends, family, teammates, and community members filled a St. Louis church to say goodbye to Jerry Brown Jr., the linebacker who died Dec. 8 when a car he was in flipped after hitting a curb. The driver, teammate Josh Brent, was charged with intoxication manslaughter Brown’s casket was Cowboys grey with the team’s star logo on the inside . . . Bob Odell, a standout player at Penn and later a coach at Williams College (1971-86) and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, died in Pennsylvania. He was 90.
