R.A. Dickey needs only to agree to a contract extension for the proposed seven-player trade between the New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays to be completed, FoxSports.com reported Sunday.

According to the report, Dickey has until 2 p.m. Tuesday to reach an agreement on an extension to become a member of the Blue Jays. Dickey is under contract for the 2013 season, but was seeking an additional $26 million to $28 million over two years from the Mets before the proposed trade.

A tentative agreement has been reached that would send Dickey, the National League’s Cy Young Award winner last season, from the Mets to Toronto. Blue Jays catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud would be the centerpiece of the group of players coming to New York in the deal.

Besides Dickey, the Mets would also send catcher Josh Thole and a non-elite prospect to the Blue Jays. The Mets would get d’Arnaud, pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard, catcher John Buck, and a non-elite prospect from the Blue Jays. The Mets would not get coveted outfielder Anthony Gose.

D’Arnaud, 23, hit .333 with 16 home runs and 52 RBIs for Triple A Las Vegas before a knee injury in late June ended his season. He was considered the No. 17-ranked prospect by Baseball America before last season.

Syndergaard, 20, was 8-5 with a 2.60 ERA for Single A Lansing this season with 122 strikeouts in 103⅔ innings. Baseball America rated the righthander as Toronto’s No. 3 prospect.

Buck came to Toronto from the Miami Marlins in November. Thole is wanted by Toronto because he is familiar with handling Dickey’s knuckleball.

Jones heads to Japan

Five-time All-Star outfielder Andruw Jones finalized a $3.5 million, one-year contract with the Rakuten Eagles of Japan’s Pacific League. Jones, 35, spent the past two years as a part-time player with the Yankees, appearing in 94 games last season and batting .197 with 14 home runs. Once one of the premier players in the big leagues, Jones broke into the majors with the Braves in 1996 and won 10 consecutive Gold Gloves from 1998-2007 as their center fielder. He has 434 career home runs over 17 seasons in the majors and could provide a boost for the Eagles, whose 52 homers were the fewest in Japan last season . . . The Twins agreed to terms on a one-year, $4 million contract with righthander Mike Pelfrey, according to CBSSports.com. Pelfrey, 28, underwent Tommy John surgery last May while with the Mets, who non-tendered him in November.
