FOXBOROUGH — NFL games being played Sunday featured pre-game tributes to the victims of Friday’s tragedy in Newtown, Conn., but the Patriots are the only league team in New England, and added a special touch to their moment of silence.
High above Gillette Stadium, 26 white flares were launched moments before kickoff, one for each of the people shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown. Images on the stadium’s video screens showed poignant scenes from Newtown, and a few signs of support made by fans inside Gillette.
