Stephen Drew agrees to deal with Red Sox

Shortstop Stephen Drew has agreed to a one-year deal with the Red Sox, a major-league source confirmed.

Drew, the 29-year-old brother of former Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew, spent last season with the Diamondbacks and Athletics, appearing in 79 games and batting .223 with a .657 OPS and seven home runs.

Although the last name will scare a lot of Sox fans it is a basically good move. The annual price is high but the one year is a good thing. This will give Iglesias some time to get his bat up to speed. The current lineup can't survive a shortstop batting 190.

$9 million for a .223 BA?  The only good side is that we didn't pay $13 million.

Seriously, the guy is almost as offensively challenged as Iglesias (nobody can reach that level of impotence) and a worse defender. I guess the Sox feel the need to spend money no matter how poor the return.

wasn't having to suffer watching jd take called third strikes continuously bad enough! sorry but the drews have always been way over rated ..... bad signing
