Cody Ross signed a three-year, $26 million contract with the Diamondbacks in a deal that came together Tuesday when the Arizona brass decided to target the Scottsdale resident.
Ross said he never got back to the Red Sox, or any of the other teams interested in his services, once the Diamondbacks put together their offer.

In essence, the Sox have swapped Cody Ross for Jonny Gomes, a defensive butcher in the outfield. My grade on this swap is a D. If they complete the trade for Napoli, and play him at first while Gomes is in the lineup, that's two of the worst fielders in baseball in the same lineup. The pitching staff will love that. Tell 'em to pitch to contact, and then pray the ball is hit to Pedey or to Ellsbury (if he's still around). Don't like to sound like a Shaughnessy negativist, but Ben Cherington is not wowing me with his player selection (other than David Ross and Kenji Uehara). I look at Hanrahan's billygoat beard and see Eric Gagne and Bobby Jenks. Ugh. Hope he pitches better than he looks.
