We are into the second full sports cycle without the Duck Boats on parade. It feels all so, well, ordinary.
We loved it, didn’t we? We relished it. We thought all those championships and all those parades were our birthright. Who better than us? Who could possibly deserve it more? We’re Boston! We’re The World’s Greatest Sports Fans!

Unless you are a cool aid drinker, parades are not the appropriate measurement . The better metric for a fan is whether the team is fun to watch. The Patriots satisfy this criteria while the Celtics do not. The Red Sox used to be fun to watch but bad management has damaged that team. And , for the few hockey fans that still exist, the Bruins were usually a good take, including Tim Thomas , who played hard and well. And Bob, spare us your moonbat cheap shot at Thomas. Save that crap for the Globe deditorial pages.
The Red sox are a disaster. A team aiming for mediocrity. Unless the plan is a two year bridge to the prospects the winter moves were completely depressing.
Shouldn't the title be : Boston, Our Best Sports Days Are Ahead Of Us!
Better put the parade decorations way to the back of the attic, won't need them for a long while, in any sport...
Great piece Bob. It rained and poured championships didn't it? What went up then came down - you know like the economy. My question is, will the payroll and or price of tickets go down along with the teams performances? The Red Sox are already saying tes by not raising ticket prices in the upcoming year. With the Patriots, I would love to see another ring but we should also enjoy the entertainment. When I see that we have a QB like Brady I want to pinch myself. Those of us old enough remember the days when most of us rooted for any other NFL team but the Patsies because they were so God Awful. I was a Dolphins fan when Marino played and my Bro the Giants. They should build a statue of Mr. Tom Brady and put it, not in Gillette Stadium but downtown Boston. He started it all when he took over for Bledsoe on that day. There were even whispers about Bellichek getting fired. It started and continues with Brady. Best ever!
"The coach should be the more grateful of the two, since he knows all too well what life can be like in this league without proper quarterbacking. Brady, who has never played for another NFL coach, could flourish under anybody. That’s my view."
Easy to say at this juncture Bob, but let's not forget the QB has to get the opportunity. Thirty One teams passed on TB12 at least five times and none of them groused when he was drafted by BB in the 6th round. BB saw something in TB early on and cultivated it. TB12 was not the QB he is now in his first three years. BB developed this guy 'perfectly'. If anything, I think this partnership has been a tru 50/50 split. I wouldn't have wanted to do this without either one of em.
Missed you, Bob. So can/should/will the Cs trade for Kevin Love. Seems to me he would be an imediate upgrade in their biggest weakness: rebounding. Perhaps a package including Green, Lee and Bass or Sullinger?
