Sports log: Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly staying put

College football

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly will be back for a fourth season after leading the Fighting Irish to the national title game this past season. Kelly issued a statement Saturday that, after interviewing with the Philadelphia Eagles, he will remain as coach of the Irish. Sources told that the coach was working toward an extension and a raise. Kelly said he has had thoughts about coaching in the NFL, but, after much reflection and conversations with those closest to him, he has decided to stay put. Kelly led the Irish to a 12-1 record this past season and has an overall mark of 28-11 in three seasons . . . The NCAA is scheduling meetings to discuss allegations with specific individuals involved in the long investigation of Miami’s athletic compliance practices, two people with knowledge of the situation said. Some of the meetings have been scheduled for Monday. Reviewing specific findings is perceived as a sign that the investigation is ending and that Miami may finally receive its notice-of-allegations letter in the coming days. Miami has been under NCAA investigation since 2011.
